Tasks: a Todoist-style Today view with overdue tasks, priority-colored checkboxes, and projects in the sidebar

Starter prompt

This is Tasks, a Todoist-style task list. I add tasks in plain language ("Pay rent every 1st p1 #Home") and you, my agent, can add, reschedule, and clear them for me. Step 1. If this is the Template, copy it for me with copy_app and work on my copy. Read it with get_app_source and getTasks. It shows a sample list until the first change. Step 2. Ask me one at a time: my time zone, the projects I want (suggest Home and Work), whether to keep the sample tasks for now or start clean, and what is on my plate this week. Step 3. Set it up. Save my time zone with saveMeta. If I want it clean, call startFresh. Create my projects with upsertProject. Add my tasks with quickAdd, using its grammar for dates, times, recurrence ("every monday"), priorities p1 to p4, #Project, and @label. Step 4. From now on, when I mention a task in chat, add it with quickAdd. When I ask what's next, read getTasks and answer from Today and Overdue. Step 5. Optional, capture by voice: create a Webhook on the capture op and help me make an iOS Shortcut that dictates text and posts it as the text field. Step 6. Optional, a morning email. This app does not send email yet, so only do this if I ask. Ask for a sending address on a domain I verified in Resend and the address to send to, and save both with saveMeta. Then, on my copy, use update_app to add charming:secrets/[email protected] to capabilities.imports and https://api.resend.com to permissions.server.fetch. Tell me to set RESEND_API_KEY in App settings, Secrets myself (never paste it here). Then create a daily Routine on dailyDigest. Finish with the app link and three quick-add examples I can try.

What it does

Tasks is a task list in the style of Todoist that you run through your agent. It replaces a paid to-do app when what you want is a fast list you can talk to. Type a task the way you'd say it, like "Pay rent every 1st p1 #Home" or "Call Dana tomorrow 3pm @calls", and Tasks sorts it into the right day, project, and priority.

  • Today shows what is due, with overdue tasks grouped on top and a one-click Reschedule
  • Upcoming lays out the next two weeks by day, with a week strip to jump around
  • Projects with sections, plus an Inbox, labels, filters, and a Completed history
  • Recurring tasks: every day, every weekday, every Monday, every 2 weeks, every 15th
  • Priorities p1 to p4, sub-tasks, comments, and search across every open task
  • Works on a phone, with a floating add button and a bottom sheet for quick add

Your agent keeps it tidy

Your agent reads and changes the list directly. Ask it to "move everything overdue to Friday", "add the action items from this meeting", or "what's on my plate this week?". It uses the same quick-add grammar you type, so what it adds looks like what you would have added.

Capture from anywhere

The capture operation takes one line of text in the quick-add style. Point a Webhook at it from an iOS Shortcut and add tasks by voice, or from an email forwarding rule.

How to use it

  1. Open the Template and look around. It opens with a sample list (a few overdue tasks, today's tasks, recurring ones) so you can see every view before you set anything up.
  2. Copy the starter prompt above and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, or any agent connected to Charming. Make sure the agent has the Charming connector enabled first.
  3. Tell your agent which time zone you are in, which projects you want (Home and Work are a good start), and whether to keep the sample tasks or start clean. It copies the Template to your account and sets it up.
  4. Tell the agent what is on your plate this week, and it adds each task with the right date, project, and priority.
  5. Add tasks yourself at any time. Press Q or click Add task and type in plain language: "Call the vet tomorrow 9am p2 @calls". Tick a task to complete it; a recurring task comes back on its next date.
  6. Optional: ask the agent to create a Webhook on capture and walk you through an iOS Shortcut for voice capture.

What you need

  • A Charming account and an agent connected to it (Claude, ChatGPT, or another MCP client)
  • Nothing else for the core app. It stores everything in the app's own storage.
  • For the optional morning email digest: a sending address on a domain you verified in Resend, and a Resend API key that you add to the app's Secrets yourself. The Template does not include email sending. Your agent turns it on for your copy by adding the fetch capability, so the digest is off until you ask for it.

What comes next

  • Ask your agent to run the digest as a daily Routine so your list arrives each morning
  • Add a Webhook for voice or forwarded-email capture
  • Ask your agent to change the app: new filters, new views, a project board, or a different look
